I am looking to purchase a house that is older and has cement asbestos siding on it. I noticed that some of the siding pieces are broken and cracked. Being that these things have asbestos in them, can they be a danger if I touch them?
The siding is made of cement with asbestos fibers encased in the cement. They only way the fibers are hazardous is if they are released and breathed in. As long as you do not scrape or sand on the siding to release the fibers into the air this type of siding should not present any unusual hazards.
