Question: I have a new house that we have lived in about one month. We have been having problems with the breaker in the master bedroom tripping all of the time. It seems trip at least once a day. All of the things that are plugged in are small new items like a lamp and an alarm clock. I just don’t understand how this could be overloading the circuit.
Answer: The problem is most likely a defective AFCI (arc fault circuit interrupter) breaker. This is a breaker that is required in all bedrooms that detects an arc, which is a fire hazard. We have found a high percentage of these breakers to be defective or improperly installed. I would suggest that you call your electrician to come check the circuit.
