I have noticed that ant hills are starting to show up in my yard. Is there any way to get rid of the ants?
I used to like to pour gasoline on the mounds and light it to get rid of ants, but the burned black spots in the yard did not look very good. Not to mention it is not good for the … Continue reading

We have large wooden gates across our driveway. The gates tend to rack and warp making them difficult to open and close. We have tried putting wheels on the ends, but this has not helped much. My husband thinks we need an iron gate, but I like the look of the wood. How can we solve this problem?
You can have a large wood gate, but will need to make a steel frame to support a large gate. If you have a steel frame made and mount it onto a steel post you should be able to cover … Continue reading

My wife wants to change the bathtub in our master bathroom. I have done some projects in my house in the past and am considering doing it myself. Do you have any suggestions?
Although it is possible to change a tub yourself it is not an easy job. Usually the hardest part is getting the new tub into the bathroom. If you choose a new “garden tub” it may be too big to … Continue reading

With hurricane season coming, is there anything I can do to lower the likely hood of damage to my house.
Most damage to houses in our area is from trees or limbs falling. If you have any unhealthy or dead trees near your house consider removing them. If you have trees that have limbs over your roof, trim these limbs … Continue reading

We just moved into our new home. In the kitchen there are granite counter tops. We have never had granite before, so we are not sure if there are any tips you can give us?

We have been having a slow drain in our shower stall. I tried drain cleaner but this did not help. Do you have any suggestions?
This is probably trash or hair in the drain. Remove the cover for the drain in the shower stall and use a coat hanger or wire to try and fish the trash or hair out of the drain. You can … Continue reading

I have an icemaker in my house and I have been having problems lately. I figured it needed to be cleaned so I called a service company to work on it. The service man said it had a bad water valve and changed the valve and cleaned the “scum” out at the same time. It is now making clear ice, but not much of it. The service man says he has done that entire he can. Can you give me an idea of what else it could be?
If the unit is clean and water valves and sprayers are all working properly you may ask the service technician to check the Freon level. If it is low on Freon the unit may not be getting as cold as … Continue reading

The disposal in my kitchen sink is very noisy. My husband wanted to know if he can just change the motor or does he have to change everything.
If you can find the same model that you currently have you can probably just change the disposal without changing the sink mounting. Be sure that there is no leaking around the connection to the sink. Sometimes there will be … Continue reading
